A Clinical Study of Acute Glomerulonephrities in Children

Abstract
A clinical investigation has been made on 38 cases of acute glomerulonephritis who were admitted to pediatrics department of Won Kwang University Hospital during 2 year period from Jan. 1985 to Dec. 1986. The results were as follows :
1. Male to female ratio was 1.4 : 1 and the age incidence was highest among children from 7-9 year of age group.
2. The most common preceding disease was URI (97.3% ).
3. The most common chief complaints on admission was Oliguria (52.6%) and the next were headache (18 .4 %) and microscopic hematuria(15.8%).
4. Throat culture was positive in 31 cases(81.6 %) and the most common cultured bacteria was alpha-hemolytic streptococcus.
5. Hypertension was detected in 21 cases (55.3%), and the most common chest x-ray finding was pulmonary edema (34.2 %).
6. The laboratory findings on admission were as follows: increased BUN (20%). Increased creatinine(21.1%), and ASO titer over 300 units(71)
7. On admission serum C3 was lower than normal range in all the cases and normalized after 2 weeks.
8. Mean serum immunoglobuline levels were highier than normal range in every age group.
9. The mean value of U/P sodium, U/P creatinine. And the creatinine clearance were not significant different hypertensive group from normotensive group.
10. Acute phase persisted for about 3 weeks in every cases and hypertensive encephalopathy was detected in 5 cases(13.1%).
